Rethinking Black Friday - Invest in You
Black Friday can feel like a frenzy of sales, countdowns, and temptations to buy items we may not actually need. But what if we took a step back and rethought our approach to Black Friday this year?
Instead of rushing to add more clothes or accessories to your virtual shopping bag, consider investing in something that will truly add value to your life and well-being. You may have seen my post on Instagram earlier this week about this. But here I go into more detail on the ideas for meaningful investments in your health, fitness, and personal growth - gifts to yourself that keep on giving.
1. Upgrade Your Fitness Routine
Take this opportunity to invest in something that will boost your health. Consider buying quality exercise equipment like weights, resistance bands, or a yoga mat. Or, look into a gym membership or fitness app subscription to keep you moving and motivated all year long. Businesses like this will most likely have some sort of an offer for Black Friday, so do your research and find one that will suit your lifestyle.
2. Join a Yoga or Pilates Class
If you’ve always wanted to try yoga or Pilates, now is the time! Many local studios or online platforms offer deals, so you could sign up for a class term or online membership. It’s a wonderful way to centre your body and mind, especially during the busy season. If you have injuries or haven’t exercised in a while, both these options are a good no impact way of making your way back to fitness.
3. Invest in Health Supplements
Think about health supplements that align with your wellness goals, such as multivitamins, immune boosters, or skin-nourishing supplements. These can make a noticeable difference in how you feel and look, especially through the colder months. I’ve been using Arbonne supplements for the past few month and have seen a great improvement in my energy levels and my mindset. Because when we nourish our bodies with goodness through our diet and or supplements, it boosts our mood, it’s hard to feel sorry for yourself when you are doing the best you can for your health and wellbeing.
Side Note: I’ve been so impressed with Arbonne’s products that I've now become an Independent Consultant for them and will be running that side of the business along with my Personal Styling. It was just a no brainer for me, Style & Wellbeing are both huge elements of our Self Care and I know from talking to clients and other women in my DMs that most of us are in need doing both, along with the other important factors of Self Care such as our fitness and a healthy diet.
4. Explore Self-Development Books or Courses
Growth and learning are invaluable gifts. Treat yourself to self-development books, whether they’re focused on mindset, health, or a new skill you’ve wanted to develop. Get down to your local bookshop and support them this Black Friday and have a rummage in the self-development area. You’ll be helping yourself and supporting a small business! But if you’ve no book shop close by and you’re ready to hit the ground running on self development you can always check out Amazon, Kindle and Audible. You could even join an online course to dive deeper into a subject you love.
5. Try a Guided Meditation App
Guided meditation apps like Calm or Headspace offer stress relief, better focus, and sleep support through easy-to-follow practices. I personally use Insight Timer - the free version has any amount of mediations for all types of areas in your life you may need support with, but their is a paid version has free courses that can be done at your own pace. A really convenient and low cost way to improve your mindset or if you’ve anxiety around any aspect of your life. A subscription is a small investment for the mental clarity and relaxation it can bring.
6. Consider a Healthy Meal Delivery Service
For busy weeks, a meal delivery service with nutritious options can be a lifesaver. Whether you go for meal kits to cook yourself or pre-prepared meals, this option takes the stress out of healthy eating. There are many well known companies out there, but why not try find a local small business doing the same thing. Check out Instagram in the search bar in your area, supporting a small business this time of year especially welcomed, I can vouch for that myself as a small business owner.
7. Create a Home Spa Experience
Transform your bathroom into a spa with a few indulgent items: bath salts, essential oils, or a facial steamer. Skincare and aromatherapy can be deeply relaxing, turning an ordinary night into a soothing retreat.
You may have seen on Instagram that I went and put my back out again nearly 2 weeks ago (a regular occurrence for me unfortunately), but one product I highly recommend for muscle tension and stress in general, is Magnesium Bath Salts. It’s like a sleeping tablet (I’ve never actually taken sleeping tablets, but you get the drift). You will be so relaxed and chilled and will sleep like a baby for the night and wake up so refreshed with less tension, pains and aches. I get my Magnesium Bath Salts in my local health food store, so try buy from your local store too.
8. Track Your Wellness Goals with a Fitness Tracker
A fitness tracker can be a great companion for wellness goals, helping you stay on track with steps, sleep, and activity. It’s a small but powerful tool for monitoring your progress and encouraging movement each day. I’ve had my Apple Watch for nearly 5 years, however there are many options available, but I can vouch for the Apple Watch 100%. When you get your Tracker why not download a Couch to 5K App and set yourself a goal now of being able to run 5km by the New Year!! Start 2025 strong instead of sluggish and hungover from chocolate and alcohol over the 2 weeks of Christmas.
9. Prioritise Better Sleep Essentials
Good sleep is the foundation of good health. Why not treat yourself to a few upgrades, like a supportive pillow, a weighted blanket, or a silk eye mask? Or what I like to do, is treat myself to a luxurious (a little more expensive) pyjamas. I love getting into them after my shower and before doing my skin care routine each night. This is my top non-negotiable when it comes to my self care routine, nothing comes between me and it in the evenings. (Just ask my kids and other half 🤣)
A restful night can make all the difference in your daily energy and well-being. You can also use your guided meditation app to drift off peacefully and wake up with a more positive feeling of gratitude which sets you up for a more productive and stress free day.
So those are my top tips, if you’re thinking of avoiding buying more clothes, shoes, accessories this year. Rather than adding clutter to your life, choose to invest in things that uplift and support you.
Wellness is an investment that pays dividends far beyond a single sale day. Make Black Friday about you - your health, your happiness, and your growth.
